Tibetan Yoga is a much more flowing and active type of Yoga, some of the names of the poses are even different. We do a flow of Tibetan Yoga during our Anti-Aging retreat, but we may also, on special occasions hold a Tibetan Yoga class.
Just as with other types of Yoga's, Tibetan Yoga can be adjusted to every age level and every skill level. With modifications and adjustments, people have been known to do Tibetan Yoga well into their 90's. It increases vitality, strength and flexibility.
We practice a Tibetan Flow in the Hot Yoga room to increase the detoxification of the twists that are so predominant in Tibetan Yoga Flow. However, it does not need be practiced in a Hot room as some feel that the action of the poses raise the heart rate enough for a great work out for both mind and body.
Tibetan yoga has some similarities to Thai Yoga as the principle of life energy and flow are used to massage and decompress the body. You definitely can feel tension leave your body as you flow through some of the series.
In keeping with the practice of Yoga, attention is also paid to relaxation and stress reduction through meditation, breathing and decompression exercises.
Just as with other Hot Yoga classes, it is extremely important to stay hydrated. The water you drink BEFORE the class is far more important than the water you drink during class. So bring a water bottle. Mats and towels are available for rental, but you may bring your own if you wish..
